Alternative – with a Pump!
Beginning in 2017 New Urals plant “Medsintez” will launch batch production of the first locally manufactured insulin pump within the framework of the Pharma-2020 Program.
Insulin pump is an alternative to numerous daily injections. It is connected to the patient’s body through a catheter, and then a program is set to monitor glucose level, determine blood sugar and administer insulin in microdoses.
Development of bacteria for local manufacture of the substance of genetically engineered and analogue insulin is also an important issue.
Genetically modified bacteria produce a special protein called insulin precursor protein. Its refolding, enzymatic conversion and purification gives insulin, says Alexander Petrov, Chairman of the Board, Medsintez. – The research team at the plant created different variants of bacterial strains. All of them were checked from the point of view of optimal operational indicators.
Thanks to that development there is a chance to implement full cycle of insulin production – from substance to finished product.
The manufacturing site is going to obtain a marketing authorization approval in the beginning of quarter 2, and by the end of the year make amendments into the current pharmaceutical monograph and abandon imported raw materials.
