Avastin is Rehabilitated
Federal Service on Surveillance in Healthcare and Social Development discontinued circulation of Avastin, batch B7035 after unexpected reaction occurring in 11 patients of the Research Institute of Eye Diseases named after Helmholz to modern target drug Avastin. Samples of that batch of product were directed for reexamination of quality to a state accredited laboratory. Based on its results Avastin, batch B7035 was accepted completely complying with the authorized specification, no deviations in the quality of the drug of the specified batch was observed.
However, it should be remarked, that Avastin is a thermolabile drug, its storage and transportation should be performed strictly in the temperature range of +2 to +8 degrees Celsius. Temperature deviations may negatively impact the quality and efficacy of the drug. If the quality of Avastin is under suspicion, members of the supply chain should provide true information on delivery, storage and transport of the product, including temperature monitoring data. Besides, Avastin is not approved for use in ophthalmology, and Roche repeatedly informed the Federal Service for Surveillance in the Field of Healthcare of the fact.
