No Deviations from Clinical Protocols
During a working visit to the Crimea Veronika Skvortsova, Minister of Healthcare, visited Yalta Municipal Hospital No 1. She remarked that the multidisciplinary medical center should be launched this October. Skvortsova also reported that a training center for Crimean surgeons will be established in Livadia.
Talking about the issues of drug supply Veronika Skvortsova said that backup drugs are often used for primary basic therapy, which makes treatment more expensive. At the same time, cost savings for treatment because of using evidence-based protocols may cover the shortage of drugs for HIV-infected patients. The Ministry of Healthcare sets a target this year to ensure up to 60 percent of HIV-infected patients with needed drugs, and in a couple of years to reach a 90 per cent level. A good start in that direction will ensure growth of funding and mechanisms for effective use of available funds: centralized purchase, focus on generics and similar drugs, and ensuring no deviations from clinical protocols.
