New Cytochrome P-450 Inducer: Effective and Not Toxic
The substance which is to become the base for a new drug, activating liver detoxication system in hepatitis, at post-cirrhosis state, and during chemotherapy, has been developed by scientists of Bashkir Medical University – a partner of Siberian State Medical University in Tomsk, where it undergoes preclinical trials. Specialists from the Research institute of Pharmacology of Siberian Department RAMS are also involved in the project.
It is a unique drug. It has the same properties as cytochrome P-450 inducers and contrary to known pharmacological agents with similar properties is not toxic.
The work has been ongoing since November, 2015. Two stages have already been completed. Now specific activity of the substance in liver disease models, pharmacokinetics and safety parameters will have to be studied, and pharmaceutical substance and pharmaceutical form will be developed. Normative documentation also has to be prepared. Overall it will take about two years for researchers to complete the studies. As the new drug is obtained, clinical studies will be initiated in Tomsk.
According to the project leader at SibSMU, leading research fellow at Central research laboratory of the University Mikhail Belousov, as opposed to known inducers of cytochrome P-450, it does not cause addiction and does not induce psychotropic effects, is not toxic, is highly effective and most likely will be affordable.
