Let Age Wait
Russian pharmaceutical company NCPharm is developing drugs that delay the process of aging.
The project concerns drugs with mechanism of action related to telomeres – terminal sections of chromosomes, protecting DNA, and specifically on their property to shorten at each division. The cell dies (or passes to the “senility mode”) as the length of telomere is insufficient for ongoing division.
The ability of cell to divide depends on telomerase enzyme. As it loses its activity, the number of telomeres during chromosomal copying is sloping to zero. Then the program of cell apoptosis is launched and the process of aging begins.
If researchers manage to reverse the process of massive death of cells by activating telomerase, the process of aging will be delayed. Let age wait.
