Russia-Nicaragua: Cooperation is Extending

A gala opening of Russia-Nicaragua joint vaccine production site “Mechnicov” took place in Nicaragua. Russia invested 14 mln. dollears in construction of the site, named after a great Russian researcher, a Nobel prize winner on physiology and medicine Ilya Ilyich Mechnikov, with 7 million dollars contributed by Nicaragua.  The products of the Nicaragua site is expected to be marketed to other Latin American countries.

Noting the importance of this event, Veronika Skvortsova, Russian Minister of Health stressed that the project will stimulate development of the immunobiological industry in Nikaragua and in Central and Latin America. The first batch of vaccines will be manufactured at the site in May 2017. At the first stage the annual production volume will be 15 million doses of influenza vaccine. It is suggested, that after going full-industrial scale the site will manufacture up to 30 mln. Doses of the influenza vaccine per season. At the same time, Skvortsova remarked, that thanks to flexible production structure, in mid-term it will be possible to develop new modules, to manufacture other vaccines, both within the national vaccination calendar, and for prevention of tropical infections: Zika, Denuge and Chikungunya fever.
