Russian Vaccines Manufactured at Nicaragua
Construction of a site for filling Russian vaccines jointly performed by Saint Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Sera and Nicaragua Institute of Social Insurance (INSS) is at a final stage. It is planned to finish the construction works by October, and a pilot run of full-scale production of vaccines is planned early next year.
The Mechnikov project is being implemented according to the instruction by Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation and Government decree and instructions, and is aimed at vaccine supplies within WHO and Latin American programs. It is being implemented within the framework of cooperation of Russian-Nicaragua Intergovernmental Commission on Trade & Economic, and Scientific & Technological cooperation.
The total area of laboratories and manufacturing operating departments will be over 3 thousand square meters. The equipment is supplied from the South Urals by Miass Site of Medical Equipment and will be installed by its personnel. The first lot has already arrived to Nicaragua and has been delivered to the warehouse in Managua. Soon the second lot of equipment will be delivered to the capital of Nicaragua.
